New Music Friday: From the Sideshow to the Mainstage

Long time, no see, friends! I’m so thrilled to be bringing you this week’s New Music Friday feature, “Sideshow” by Kaylee Federmann!

“Sideshow” is an upbeat pop bop, musically reminiscent of One Direction's “Midnight Memories” and “Made in the A.M.” albums. Despite its catchy rhythm, “Sideshow” details the frustrating journey of not being “enough” as an artist or as a person. Federmann uses that journey to add fuel to her fire, instead of letting it stifle her drive and passion. While I do not know Kaylee’s motivation for writing this single, or the true tale behind it, the perceived dual message of the tune echoes Sara Bareilles’s “Love Song”. With lyrics like, “Would you care if I was a superstar? / would you care if I was a little bit farther than right now?/ maybe if I scream even louder/ it will be enough to make you listen/ but you know someday I’ll be more than a sideshow”, it could be intended for personal relationships or relationships on the professional level.

Whether you’re leaving a relationship in the dust in pursuit of your passions, or an artist just trying to keep at it through this world of frequent rejection, “Sideshow” is the tune you need to get that dirt off your shoulders and keep moving forward!

You can come see Kaylee perform “Sideshow” and a couple other great tunes at  our showcase next Tuesday (10/10) at 3rd & Lindsley!  Make sure to get your tickets to the showcase at the link below!
