3.26 Artist Feature: Sarah Lake

Sarah Lake is a Canadian born country artist. Today, she goes into detail about drawing from other people’s stories to write her own music and where she looks for inspiration. Sarah’s showcase debut is March 26th at 3rd & Lindsley.

Where are you from?
I was born in Canada and grew up in North Carolina

Why did you decide to get into music?
I feel like music chose me. I’ve been singing since I was a little girl!

Who is your inspiration in your personal life? Professional?
My friends and family! I’m always drawing inspiration from their stories, their personalities and our experiences. Professionally;  I’m constantly motivated but other artists and the different soundscapes and lyrical ideas they have- there are so many in all genres!

What impact do your loved ones have on your music?
A lot! My loved ones inspire me but also speak the truth. They give me balance, perspective and keep me in check.

What is your favorite cover song to play?
Right now it’s “Cowboy Take Me Away” by The Chicks. It’s going to be on my upcoming EP with an amazing feature- can’t wait

When you have no inspiration, where do you go or look?
It’s all around me, in songs I hear simple conversations over coffee. Again, I feel like the inspiration is there seeking me. It’s just a matter of me tuning into it.

Have you always wanted to be a musician?
Yes, since I was about 10!

How did you decide to follow the creative path you’re currently on musically?
My musical journey evolved very organically. I started singing in bands in high school and have never stopped pursuing music. I’ve had incredible support from my family and loved ones to keep going!

What is your performance style?
I love performing with a full band and being able to share the stage with other musicians. There is nothing like the energy from a live audience and band mates.
