Holiday Gift Guide for the Vocalists & Singers in Your Life!

What is it about being an adult and “not knowing" what you want for Christmas? When I deliberately ask people the response is always either a polite “I don’t need anything,” or “I’m not sure!” Let’s be real, everyone has something they want but don’t necessarily need so, I’m here to give you that list for your favorite vocalist because quite frankly, as an avid performer, I don’t need an brand new microphone because I already have one however, I certainly would not say no to one…

For Live Performers:
A new microphone is always useful. Why? Because maybe we get to the gig and for whatever reason our ole faithful isn’t working or, needs to be cleaned. Most singers these days have taken to bringing their own microphones to their gigs because quite frankly, they know where it’s been and how it works. Different microphones lend themselves to different uses however, the Shure SM58 is a classic, budget-friendly, option for most singers. For the more refined singer, the elevated Shure Beta 58A is the new and improved SM58. It focuses on elevating the singer’s mid-range while also isolating the singer’s voice to provide the best amplified sound possible.

For Karaoke-Enthusiasts:
We all have that friend who is always down for Karaoke but there isn’t always somewhere to do karaoke and sometimes for the youngsters, they aren’t old enough to get in! So, why not buy them a Karaoke Microphone? With an array of options, colors, set ups, and more, you can find one that fits your budget and your situation best.

We would recommend the BONAOK Wireless Bluetooth Karaoke Microphone. It’s portable, it comes in 13+ colors, and can connect to most devices via Bluetooth!

If you don’t want to take it an extra step, you can also purchase a year-long subscription to Smule, the smartphone app. Smule has a variety of instruments you can choose from, including a karaoke mode! There is also a fun social aspect to it where you can share your performances with friends on the app, across other social platforms, or keep your recordings all to yourself!

For the Health-Enthusiasts
Yes, even singers are health enthusiasts! Singing is quite the workout for your voice and it’s important to keep your voice healthy! For this list, I’ve split it up in to two categories: Under the tree & stocking stuffers so you can find what fits your budget & needs best!

Under the Tree:

Stocking Stuffers:

  • Vocal Eze Throat Spray - a natural herbal throat spray that helps the voice recover after a long singing session! Just 2 sprays and your voice is on its way to recovery for the next gig!

  • Tea/Local Honey - two things I remind my students about constantly are that your best tools for vocal health are right in your pantry! I love getting a new box of tea for Christmas! Anything herbal & caffeine free will do the trick but my personal favorites are peppermint, apple cinnamon, lemong & ginger, and anything with a hint of spice in it! Local honey is helpful for singers not only because honey has essentials ingredients that help with vocal recovery but also because the local pollen is in the honey and so, you get used to what is in your area faster!

Last but certainly not least is of course, lessons! Giving the gift of music lessons to anyone on your list is the gift that keeps on giving! Help your favorite aspiring musician learn a new skill in 2023, or rekindle the love of singing for a loved one!
