A Day In The Life Of Our Co-Founder, Caitie Thompson

I’ve learned that many people don’t actually believe that I get paid to do what I do. I often get asked, “What does life look like for a full time musician?” Honestly… most of the time I truly just wing it day to day. The few consistent things that are on my weekly agenda include walking/taking care of my niece puppy (Princess Leia Hermione), Music On The Move meetings, teaching lessons, creating course materials for those lessons, podcast production work for Paradox Jukebox, DJ-ing, and performing with my band, Lucky Penny Sisters. Mind you, I don’t have to perform or teach every day, but I am ALWAYS doing something music related.

A typical day for me looks like this:

  1. Wake up, and stretch my back. (I have degenerative disc disease, and if I do not stretch, I won’t make it through the day without having to lay down on the floor multiple times to allow my back to reset.

  2. Fuel up. I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT COFFEE. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s not good for you and all of that blah blah blah, but you know what? It’s not meth. I’m fine. 😂

  3. Prepare for/ teach lessons. Depending on the morning, I may begin teaching early, or I may use the morning to prep for all of the coming lessons that day. Teaching is how I pay the bills most of the time, so I keep a pretty full roster.

  4. MOTM Meetings. We have weekly team meetings to stay on top of content creation, planning, and marketing.

  5. Performances. Whether I am performing in my band The Lucky Penny Sisters, or DJ-ing school dances, my weekends are usually chalk full from Spring to late fall.

I can say that some of the most important things in my day to day routine are stretching, making to-do lists, checking emails, and playing with the doggo. (She’s really the most important thing about my day, let’s be honest. Even though she’s technically not mine, she’s my sister’s dog. But, she definitely loves me more.😁)

I have a pretty amazing life, albeit stressful at times. Managing a band, podcast, lesson studio, and creating content for MOTM has me pretty much swamped. I don’t have a lot of time for other projects, so I have to be very careful of what I say yes to. However, it’s pretty awesome to be asked to do some of the things I do.

I just recently DJ’d my hometown’s Pride event, and it was an absolute blast. As a member of the LGBTQIA family, it was a surreal moment to be the one managing the music for our little Pride Festival. 🏳️‍🌈 It was hotter than hades, but loved it and can’t wait to do it again next year. (Yes, they’ve already asked me back!)

I would be nothing with out my workers, friends, family, and wonderful girlfriend that support me. Being a female musician isn’t easy, hell, just being a musician isn’t easy. You have to make sure to surround yourself with the people that believe in you most, and want to SEE YOU SUCCEED. That’s why I am a part of Music On the Move Studios. We are an ecosystem that wants to see ALL OF YOU succeed, and be a part of your journey.

Thanks for stopping by to learn more about me, even if you just came for the dog pictures. 🐕🐕🐕
