Seizing the Day with the Tennessee Trojans

We here at Music on The Move Studios are big sports fans. (Me, specifically.) Going to a game is quite the event with the camaraderie of cheering for your favorite team, the emotion of winning, losing, good calls, bad calls, and the like. When a new team pops up in your city, you get excited. Even more so when that team not only ties in the excitement of an American classic with empowerment and activism, simply by existing.

The WNFC, or Women’s National Football Conference, is an all-female National football league. Full teams, full tackle, fully football. With 16 teams across the country, their mission is to “accelerate equity for women and girls in sports through the power of football.”

Locally, Tennessee has the Tennessee Trojans, owned by two veteran women, who’s team motto is “Seize the Day.” Obviously, when I first heard about this team, I had to know more and so last summer, I connected with Rachel Ortiz, one of the owners and a partnership was born! The Tennessee Trojans has been a big supporter of Music on The Move Studios. Sponsoring showcases, attending showcases, and even letting me borrow some of their players for my music video Sunday Crowd! Now that their season has officially started, it’s time for us to return the favor!

I caught up with Rachel to get a further look in to the Tennessee Trojans, who they are as a team and what they’re all about!

Why is it important to you to grow not only the WNFC brand but also the Tennessee Trojans?

The WNFC is the world's premier women's tackle football league, boasting sponsors from household names such as adidas, Riddell and Dick's Sporting Goods. The WNFC leadership is committed to bringing women's football to mainstream media and showcasing the amazing athletes in our League. The Tennessee Trojans echo the goals of the WNFC but here in the great state of Tennessee. The women football players of our State deserve to be recognized as professionals and celebrated as trailblazers. We are not just a football team, but a family, committed to empowering women and girls from all backgrounds to achieve anything they set their mind to.

Your motto seems to be “Seize the Day.” Why and where did you land on that?

The Trojan brand came to fruition through careful thought and consideration. Nashville is often called the Athens of the South and the legend of the trojan horse comes from Greek mythology. While Seize the Day (Carpe Diem) does not translate exactly to Greek mythology, the meaning of the phrase resonates with the aggressive yet well-planned tactics behind the legend of the trojan horse. The phrase also holds great meaning to the Trojans' owners, as they are military veterans who embody making the most out of each day to make the future better. Whether you're a Trojan athlete, coach, or even a fan, anyone can "Seize the Day" and build a brighter future. We love to say "Seize the Day, the Trojan Way!" Which equates to committing to hard work, living life with integrity, and showing compassion towards others.

What can people expect from attending a Trojans game?

A Trojans' game will showcase the premier women's football league in the world, full of hard-hitting action, game-breaking plays and entertaining celebrations. We aim to give our fans an entire game experience. Which includes a first-class emcee, local musicians performing during pregame and halftime, concession and merchandise sales, and interaction with community partners. We even offer VIP packages with designated parking and preferred seating.

How can people get involved with the Trojans and how can they support?

The Trojans organization is always looking for volunteers to assist with gameday operations or general administrative tasks. We also want to build community partnerships with organizations which share our vision and values. We love opportunities for impactful community engagement with our community partners. Lastly, sponsors are always welcome! We offer various sponsorship packages for interested businesses or individuals. Our ultimate goal is for our athletes to have zero out of pocket costs to play the game they love. All of this information and more can be found at tennesseetrojans.com or follow us on IG @tennesseetrojans.

This Saturday, April 22nd, I will be singing the National Anthem and half time show at their game against Florida in Nashville. You can purchase tickets here or click the button below.
